UnitedHealth Group and National Nonprofit Housing Groups Announce Additional $100 Million Investments to Build Communities That Achieve Better Health Outcomes
August 02, 2022
In April of 2022, UnitedHealth Group announced an additional $100 million investment in the Health & Housing Fund — a partnership with Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) and National Affordable Housing Trust (NAHT) that not only creates new housing but also supports onsite resident services that lead to better health and outcomes. We are especially excited about the continued opportunity to provide healthy, affordable homes in communities where a persistent need for affordable housing exists.
UnitedHealth Group announced its national partnership with SAHF and NAHT in June 2020, which initially provided $118 million in funding for affordable housing communities. This new investment brings the total amount of investment in the Health & Housing Fund to $218M. In addition, UnitedHealth will invest $2 million to support on-site health-related services for residents in those communities and measure residents’ health outcomes.
A quality, stable home is well documented as a foundational determinant of health and that has never been more evident than in recent months. With a shared commitment to creating healthier, more equitable communities beginning with home, SAHF and NAHT collaborate to create policy, programmatic and financial tools that increase the supply of affordable homes enriched by services that support health and well-being. The Health & Housing Fund builds on SAHF’s Outcomes Initiative, begun to demonstrate the impact of stable affordable homes with integrated services can have on residents, and SAHF’s continuing work to promote a resident-centered framework for resident services coordination. We look forward to this opportunity to collaborate with UnitedHealthcare to deepen our collective understanding of the impact of stable, affordable homes on health outcomes.
