SAHF Submits Comments to HUD's Proposed Rule to Reduce Barriers to HUD-Assisted Housing

SAHF submitted comments to HUD's Reducing Barriers to HUD-Assisted Housing proposed rule that would amend regulations governing admission for applicants with criminal records or a history of involvement with the criminal justice system, and related evictions or termination of assistance. SAHF members, have already adopted several of these standards or similar versions, and our recommendations focus on this experience as well as our firm commitment to reducing barriers to housing for those who have been historically disconnected. Our recommendations are meant to further improve these policies and procedures, including the look back period, definition of “currently engaged” and the required period of notice and appeal.
