SAHF Signs On To Advocacy Letter Supporting the Inclusion of Housing Credit Provisions in Tax Package

January 23, 2024

SAHF joins 88 national and statewide affordable housing and community development organizations in a letter urging Senate Finance Committee Chair, Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Housing Ways and Means Committee Chair, Jason Smith (R-MO), to enact the housing provisions in the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act. Specifically, two of the provisions from the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (S.1557/H.R. 3238):

  • Temporarily restore the 12.5% allocation increase for 2023-2025. This allocation increase was originally enacted in 2018 and expired in 2021. The provision in this agreement would restore the 12.5% increase retroactively for 2023 and keep the provision in place for the next two years.
  • Lower the 50% bond financing threshold to 30% for properties financed with bonds with issue dates before 2026.
