SAHF Releases Statement on White House Resident Centered Housing Challenge

January 26, 2023

Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) commends the Biden-Harris Administration on its continued efforts to expand opportunities for a more equitable and resident-centered rental housing market. SAHF’s mission-driven nonprofit members —who develop, own, and manage rental homes across the country — are committed to this vision, and put it into practice not only through the homes they build, but the connections created to services and community that make a difference for residents. We have joined the White House’s recently announced Resident-Centered Housing Challenge, to share the significant work that SAHF has done and investments its members have made to advance resident-centered practices and the collaboration we will undertake to more meaningfully engage residents while operating in a complex financing and regulatory environment.

While we look forward to engaging with the Administration as it rolls out “renter protection and affordability” policy proposals aligned with the principles in their Blueprint for a Renter’s Bill of Rights also announced today, we know that the best supports for housing stability are an adequate supply of quality affordable homes for all people and rental assistance for those who need it. We urge the Administration to prioritize advancement of its Housing Supply Action Plan to more holistically ensure residents can access quality, affordable rental homes.
