The United States faces an escalating affordable housing crisis that requires urgent, pragmatic, and collaborative solutions. To respond effectively and to unlock the expansion of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit through the recently enacted One Big Beautiful Act (H.R. 1), we need a comprehensive federal strategy that strengthens HUD programs and eliminates regulatory burdens that impede housing supply and preservation. Our shared mission—to build strong, inclusive, and sustainable communities—must be matched by streamlined oversight and empowered public-private partnerships.
As a collaborative of mission-driven affordable housing providers, Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) offers the following policy and regulatory recommendations—that are a complement to our recommendations to Congress on continued support for critical HUD programs-- to improve program delivery, accelerate development, and sustain affordable housing across the country.
