Applying Trauma-Informed Principles: An Example of Resident Communications.

SAHF’s Housing Stability Cohort (HSC) identified resident communication as a key piece of housing stability. In addition to publishing a Resident Communication Touchpoints Brief to share emerging best practices in communications, SAHF partnered with HSC member Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) to produce a resource on “Applying Trauma-Informed Principles: An Example of Resident Communications.”

The resource demonstrates how POAH analyzed a mandatory notice using a trauma-informed lens and then updated the notice to use more trauma-informed and resident-centered language, which is helpful for trust-building between residents and landlords. When resident communications support trust and open engagement, residents often feel better about reaching out for assistance and working with their landlords to maintain stable housing. Please see POAH's Trauma-Informed Housing Toolkit for additional resources and examples.

SAHF thanks JPMorgan Chase & Co. for its generous support. Unless otherwise specifically stated, the views and opinions expressed in these resources are solely those of SAHF and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of JPMorgan Chase & Co or its affiliates.
