At the 2020 Better Buildings Summit, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recognized Stewards of Affordable Housing of the Future (SAHF) members Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) and Mercy Housing as Better Buildings Goal Achievers. With this year’s recognition, POAH and Mercy Housing are the first multi-state nonprofit affordable housing providers to achieve their BBC goals of reducing portfolio-wide energy consumption by 20%.

SAHF just launched a COVID-19 Resource Page through the CORES Certification website. Resident services practitioners can access a blend of tools and templates to support frontline staff and resources for staff to use as they support families and seniors, both in the immediate crisis and in the longer-term response. This site (updated weekly) includes both practitioner-developed tools and external resources that may be valuable to resident services practitioners.

CORES certified organizations are eligible for Fannie Mae’s Healthy Housing Rewards™, a financing mechanism that provides funding for property-level services. CommonBond, a SAHF member, received this financing at two properties in Minnesota, helping them to expand opportunity for residents and achieve better outcomes.

The Board of Directors of Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF), a nonprofit collaborative of thirteen multi-state nonprofit affordable housing providers, today announced the appointment of Andrea Ponsor as President and Chief Executive Officer. SAHF has also appointed Sandra V. Serna as Vice President of Health and Housing to lead the organization’s continuing collaboration with health systems, payers, and others to improve the health of affordable housing residents and their communities.
